Hello everybody!

The decision is closing up and here is some thoughts concerning the
trip to Düsseldorf next autumn.

According to my plan we will be leaving Helsinki on 25.10 or 26.10. To
get as cheap flights as possible we will stay in Germany for one week.
So we will return 1.11 or 2.11. We will have to look over the
correlation between living costs and flying costs because one week
might be a little bit too long, I would prefer a 5 day trip instead
but we have to see. The flight tickets are conciderably more expensive
for a shorter time period because tickets on weekends are very
expensive. We will be flying AirBerlin or AirBaltic and there will be
stops in Riga or Berlin at least on one way.

The aim is to find a hostel in the city centre of Düsseldorf. I have a
couple of requests pending right now so we will see if they have room
for us. The closer to the city centre we will get the hotel, the less
we will require bus services. I have also a couple of requests pending
to different bus companies and we will see what the cost for the bus
would be for 3-4 days.

The plan is that when we arrive in Düsseldorf there is still a couple
of days before the fair starts. The fair is scheduled on 27.10 - 3.11.
I think we should take the first days a trip to Wolfsburg to the VW
museum and factory. We might even be able to make it as a one day
trip, requiring that we start very early in the morning and that the
bus driver will drive us back in the night. When we arrive back in
Düsseldorf the fair will start and we will have 4-5 days time to see
the fair. It is enormous so at least 3-4 days are needed to experience
everything. It would be nice also for everyone to have a free day in
Düsseldorf to see the local things and this will also be arranged.

As for the cost of the trip these are very rough estimations since we
do not know for sure the exact prices for anything else than the
flights.

The estimations are made for 24 persons:

- Flights: 1900e - 2300e
- Living (6 nights with 25-30e/night): 3600e - 4700e
- Bus (for 3-4 days): 2000e - 4000e
- The Fair: Sponsored by Arcada
- One night out: Sponsored by Engel
- Food and leisure time costs for 7 days

So the minimum cost/person is 7500/24 = 312,5e and the maximum is 11
000/24e = 458e. Since we only have around 7000e now this means that in
the lower case eveyone would have to pay around 21e, in the higher
case 167e. And the costs might rise a little bit because of the
accommodation. In any case, this trip will be a very cheap trip for
every member, concidering the duration of the trip compared to the
total costs. However, the people that have been working hard for this
trip will get a bigger sponsorship from the PET-club for the trip than
the ones that have not been working, so in any case, if you feel you
haven't done that much concider these prices somewhat higher than they
appear.

Now we will need to start collecting a list of people interested in
this trip. If you sign up for the trip you will not be able to cancel
it anymore because of problems that these possible cancellations would
cause us. The flights need to be booked as non-refundable flights
because of the lower price. So please inform MIKKO as soon as possible
if you are interested. We will need to have a final list of people
attending the trip on 21.3.2010! If we continue postponing the
reservation of this trip the prices will go up all the time.

So be active, think of your possibilities to attend the trip and
inform before 21.3.2010, I prefer that you get your name on list
earlier then the absolute deadline. Looking forward to an interesting
engineering trip in good company. Look, learn and enjoy the German
culture (beer). Come with us to Düsseldorf!
